There's a book that came out a couple years ago I really liked called "Strange Harvests: The Hidden Histories of Seven Natural Objects," by Edward Posnett, that made me think about the balance of use vs. commodification in different ways. Also the short Canadian documentaries "Angry Inuk" and "People of a Feather."
